URC x Mercy Drops Dream Center

Join the URC in partnering with Mercy Drops Dream Center on the 2nd Monday and Saturday of every month!

  • Second Mondays Monthly: Package Distribution from 4:30-6:15pm at 504 McLean St Portsmouth 23701

Two volunteer teams will work together to distribute care packages to both those experiencing homelessness in downtown Portsmouth and seniors in the Foster Care system.

  • Second Saturdays Monthly: Adopt a Block, 9-11am or 3-5pm at 504 McLean St Portsmouth 23701

Volunteers will visit specific neighborhoods and help fill the needs. This outreach involves distributing food, hygiene items, and other essentials, playing with kids, picking up trash, and visiting families door-to-door.

URC x Community Classroom

Join the URC in partnering with YESUSA'S Community Classroom and Norfolk Public Schools to bring weekly values-based leadership programming to students at select Norfolk schools with so many opportunities to serve!

Volunteer opportunities are the following:

  • Meals: Each week’s sessions include a general assembly with a speaker. Before the message, YESUSA serves the teens a meal. Volunteers serve the meal and provide administrative support for the meeting.

  • Values-Based Leadership (using Global Priority Solutions): Volunteers facilitate small group interactive sessions with teens. They led a small group (3-5) with a scripted workbook for six consecutive weeks. Volunteer facilitators undergo training.

  • College and Career Explorers Club: Volunteer mentors help a small number of students (2-3) manage their accounts in a gifts discovery software called Naviance and help them stay on task weekly for a year. Mentors help teens navigate toward their potential. Volunteer mentors undergo training.
