Take Your Next Step

Built on the same processes as VBthrive, NFKthrive provides coaching to Norfolk residents to guide them as they advance their goals, whatever they may be, and position themselves toward greater self-sufficiency. The program will focus on providing support to the nearly 90,000 families in Norfolk who qualify as ALICE and are struggling to make ends meet. NFKthrive is partnering with the City of Norfolk and the Urban Renewal Center to support these individuals and families in five critical areas:

Mentoring

Housing

Employment & Education

Financial Management

Well-being

Testimonial

My name is Eniyan Sankara, and I began participating in Norfolk Thrive in March 2024. As a single dad of three girls, I learned about the program at a school event. Initially, I hesitated to join because I had never participated in a program like this.

NFKThrive has been instrumental in helping me discover myself and motivating me to reach new heights. Since joining, I've set and achieved several goals I never thought possible. One of my most significant accomplishments was securing a job with the Fire Department. Ironically, this happened after I put out a fire in my car before the firefighters arrived. They were impressed and encouraged me to apply, which I did with the help of my mentor, Chantel Goodwin, at the URC. Together, we set the goal of completing the application process, and I eventually landed the job!

I'm looking forward to taking advantage of this opportunity to save money and buy a new home next year. The program has also provided financial counseling, giving me a clear view of my budget and areas for improvement, which will support my goal of getting a new place.

Chantel has been incredibly encouraging and supportive. She sends me referrals, keeps me updated on community events, and is always a listening ear and helping hand. I'm thrilled to have found Norfolk Thrive and to be part of a supportive community. As someone with few friends, I cherish the one-on-one time with my mentor, allowing me to connect with adults outside of my role as a parent.
